Dear Colleagues in dark and challenging times it is good to recall what can be good. El Jefe Orwell claimed that, "every joke is a small revolution."  In that light, perhaps the article below from Secrecy and Society, "Humor and Surveillance - "That's Not Funny" (Or Is It?): For Professor Serge Gutwirth on his Retirementhttps://scholarworks.sjsu.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1083&context=secrecyandsociety" may be of interest. Serge Gutwirth played a major role in creating the emerging interdisciplinary field of law, technology and society studies as this involves the protection of human rights. He has done this through his writing and the VUB research groups on human rights and later with LSTS (Law Science Technology and Society). The latter was among the earliest and the most, prominent of international groups concerned with these questions. Bravo Serge and best to all for the holidays.  Gary
